About AVAA

30thposter.jpgSince 1977, the Austin Visual Arts Association (AVAA) has significantly contributed to the overall artistic vitality of Austin by providing valuable opportunities to visual artists of all backgrounds, ages, styles and media. By facilitating professional development, information resources, networking opportunities, educational and community outreach, and public discussion, we equip artists with the skills, tools, and connections they need in order to become working professionals. And by accelerating the growth and success of individual artists, we enrich Austin’s entire visual arts community. We invest in the arts one artist at a time. Artists play a leading role in Austin’s renowned progressive lifestyle. Artists are the heart of our creative class. They enliven our physical environment and deepen our community spirit. Artists inspire us to think bigger, and challenge us to think different. They help to keep Austin “weird.” Despite their contributions to all our lives, artists find themselves marginalized. They are routinely underemployed and often underappreciated. In an increasingly competitive cultural marketplace, emerging artists are at high risk to leave the profession, unless provided with early-career support. AVAA delivers that support. We advocate for visual artists, stimulate the art market, provide material support, offer training and education, foster networking relationships and supply information resources.
