AVAA Life Drawing Programs

AVAA hires models for 3-hour intervals for open art sessions five times a week throughout the entire year at the AVAA Building located in central Austin. The sessions provide artists the valuable opportunity to draw from life. AVAA’s program is open to the public and just $10 per session. It allows artists to hone their drawing, painting, & sculpture skills in an open studio format almost any day of the year without the obligation of signing up for a formal or expensive class.

Participants include artists of all levels. The program has been a mainstay in the community for more than 15 years, allowing artists to collaborate and to continue their education and professional development at affordable prices, and at a convenient, accessible location year-round.

Members or our Life Drawing Program are invited to participate in our annual exhibit at Austin Art Space — “The Austin Figurative Show.”

Our sessions are graciously hosted by our wonderful artist volunteers. Without our coordinators, the program would not exist. Please thank them!

Austin Visual Arts Awards

In years past, AVAA created and hosted the industry arts awards. In an effort to recognize Austin’s top artists for their achievements in the field, and to expand, promote, and document Austin’s role as a leading arts destination, the Austin Visual Arts Association, in conjunction with the arts industry, presents the awards with a cocktail gala at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the University of Texas campus. The event pays tribute to the many noteworthy Austin artists who have earned a place in history, as well as to our rising contemporary artists. Dozens of art industry organizations — including museums, galleries, studios and professional associations — participate in the selection process to honor Austin’s leading artists. Read more here.
